The role of optimal family functioning in academic adjustment and academic achievement of elementary school students

Abstract

Background and purpose: Sometimes the issues have continued even after Corona. Therefore, the purpose of the research was to investigate The role of optimal family functioning in academic adjustment and academic achievement of elementary school students. Method: The current research design was descriptive and correlational. The statistical population included all fourth and fifth grade students in Dezful city in the academic year of 2024-2025, who were selected by the available sampling method, 150 people were selected, and the Epstein, Baldwin, and Bishab family assessment questionnaires, Pham and Taylor's academic progress, and Sinha's academic adjustment were used. and Singh replied. After data collection, data were analyzed with SPSS23 software using Pearson correlation and multiple linear regression. Findings: The results showed that the optimal functioning of the family is related to academic achievement (r-0.79), social adjustment (r-0.81), emotional adjustment (r-0.75), educational adjustment (r-0.62) and The total academic adjustment score (r-0.82), there is a direct and significant relationship. Also, the results of regression analysis showed that family functioning explained 79% of academic progress. Also, family functioning explained 53% of social adjustment, 27% of emotional adjustment and 11% of educational adjustment. Discussion and conclusion of psychological and skill training of parents in this field can also be useful. Due to its wide range of interactions and actions, the family strongly affects the psychological functions of the individual and can affect the academic adjustment.
