Abstract
The present study aimed to analyze the content of the primary school social studies textbook in terms of paying attention to the components of democracy and the degree of its compliance with social realities from the perspective of teachers and parents. This study was applied in terms of purpose and descriptive-survey in nature. The statistical sample in the second part of the study was determined using the Cochran formula to be 65 teachers and 232 parents. A checklist and a researcher-made questionnaire were used to collect data. Content validity was used to determine the validity of the tools using the perspectives of the professors of the Department of Educational Sciences at the University of Tabriz. To determine the reliability of the checklist. Text content analysis and univariate t-test were also used to analyze the data. The research findings showed that the frequency of the components of freedom, equality, participation and cooperation, responsibility, legalism, the right to choose and make decisions, citizenship rights, and critical thinking in the text analysis of the elementary school social studies textbook was 513 times, question analysis with 67 times, and image analysis with 52 times had the lowest frequency in terms of attention to the components of democracy in the social studies textbook. Also, the results of the paired t-test showed that there is a significant difference between the views of teachers and parents regarding the degree of adaptability of democracy components in elementary social studies textbooks to social realities.
